Here at Musselbaren a distinct blue thread linking everything we do points to our passion – we want to show blue mussels for the gourmet stars they are. They deserve that position, as one of the most nutritious and sustainable ingredients that we can harvest from the sea’s pantry. In most of our dishes we offer the very freshest blue mussels direct from our partner Scanfjord’s farms in the fjords around the island of Orust. (Of course you’ll find mussel free alternatives on our menu if you’re still not convinced about how excellent they are. But naturally we’ll do our best to persuade you to become a mussel lover, just like us!)
In Ljungskile, on Lyckorna, you’ll find our first Musselbar. It was there it all started, where the idea took root, to open an eco-friendly restaurant showcasing the blue gold of the sea. Vast mussel farms wind around the inner fjords, supplying mussels that couldn’t be fresher direct to the restaurant. Proximity to the underwater farms means that we can also offer you the chance to do other activities like going on a mussel expedition and harvesting your own dinner onboard our boat, MS M/S Märta, distilling your own snaps, or taking part in one of our research trips.
In Smögen, Musselbaren is one of Kleven’s three kitchens, alongside the Pizza Bistro and Alex lilla kök. The restaurant was built three years ago, and is on the jetty out on the tiny island of Kleven. Kleven, or Holmen as people around here call it, was also where the famous Magasinet restaurant was until the 80s. On the other side, on the Smögen Boardwalk, we also run a hotel with great packages, including dinner, bed and breakfast, with different seasonal events and activities.
